10 Questions To Ask Your Photographer Before A Session
Will you give me all the pictures from the session?
That depends on the package you have chosen. Typically a photographer (myself included) will provide you with the pictures you have paid for. However, you can typically pay for additional pictures if you wish!
What should I wear to my shoot?
There is tons I could say about this. In fact, I have an entire blog about this topic alone, and encourage you to check it out for more information. But to answer simply, you should always dress according to the season. There is nothing more awkward than taking pictures of someone wearing shorts in the middle of the winter. The person is usually cold and shaking. They get a pink nose, and it is clear from the images that they are uncomfortable. Also, don’t wear brands/logos. It can be distracting. For group photos, you want to coordinate your colors so they look good together. One tip I give clients is to put your outfits together to see if they look good before getting dressed. And mostly, be comfortable! Again for more info, check out my other post specifically answering this question in more detail.
What is included in my photography package? Do I receive prints?
My packages include digital images that are professionally retouched. You are able to download and share these images! You can also choose to print selected images for a small fee.
What do I need to do before the shoot?
You want to confirm that you have signed all the required documentation (Contract & Invoice) and have paid your required fee prior to the session! Other than that, you just have to show up at the scheduled time/location!
Do you offer retouching?
I do some basic retouching and remove excess acne and distracting things in the image. However, I try to keep the editing to a minimum in an attempt to keep things looking as natural as possible. I do not change waist sizes or alter a person in an extreme manner.
Is it okay if I am awkward in pictures? Or if my kids are not listening?
Yes of course! As a photographer, it is my job to create a safe and comfortable environment. I will also give you prompts and tips throughout the session so that we get the best images! And I want to capture your children as they are. So if they are running or sleeping, we will capture that moment as it happens. Please do not feel that they have to be on their best behavior or that you have to have it all together. Because the truth is, most of us don’t have it together, myself included. And I have come to learn there is something really beautiful about those messy moments in life.
How do you handle payment? And do I have to tip?
Typically, I will have you pay for your session online prior to the photoshoot. I accept payment in various forms. You can reach out to me directly to ask about specifics. Regarding the tip, it is never expected but always appreciated.
I have noticed most of your pictures are done outside. Do you also do indoor sessions? Or do you have a photography studio?
Yes I mostly shoot outdoors. I can also do indoor sessions, and I do not have a studio. I truly believe that my best images have come from the beautiful backdrop that is the great outdoors and the natural glow that is the sunset!
What is the benefit of hiring a photographer? Why can’t I capture the image myself?
The biggest difference is the quality of the image. I have a professional digital camera that is able to pick up on more details than your phone’s camera. Also, I have several years experience in creating a warm, and comfortable environment that elicits natural reactions and emotions! I can help create memories that will last a lifetime!
